Property Tax Hikes

Oakville residents could see a 6% property tax increase on the Halton Region portion of their property tax bill in 2025. That’s what’s being proposed in next year’s budget. It includes a 2.3% increase for regional programs and services and an 11.8% increase for the police service. The budget will be approved December 11th.

It might cost the province $1 billion, but Ford says OK to holiday on sales tax

The Ontario government is going to support Trudeau's GST break for consumers, meaning the entire HST, which is a blended provincial and federal tax, will be removed from certain items during the tax break period.

Talks suspended

Mediation has been suspended between Canada Post and the union because the sides are too far apart.  The hope is both sides will review their positions and come back to the table.

Winter means business this year

The Weather Network says this winter is going to be colder and more impactful than last year.

But it was only a minute!

Now that it’s getting colder, police are warning drivers of the theft risk of leaving their cars unattended while warming up.  Three cars were taken in Scarborough this weekend.

P.A. Day tomorrow

Friday is a P.A. Day for Catholic and Public schools in Halton. Oakville Museum is running a Winter Craft session in the afternoon, Oakville Public Library has a number of different activities planned including a lego drop-in and different crafts.

The Public and Catholic school boards have just released sign-up info for certain French programs. In the public board, parents can register kids to start French Immersion in Grade 2 starting December 1st. In the Catholic board, registration for Grade 5 Extended French opens November 29th.
