Oakville’s #1 again… a different list this time

Oakville has ranked #1 again, this time as the top community in the country for Culture Days which recognises arts, culture, and creativity. Last week, the town came up tops as the most livable community in Ontario.

New property tax website

Don’t get too excited… but the Town of Oakville is set to unveil a new online Property Tax Portal in the new year. They say it’ll make accessing and updating your account a lot easier. The town says 25% of the questions they get at ServiceOakville are about property taxes.

Deerfield Golf Course

Town staff are recommending that the Town of Oakville negotiates a five-year lease extension with Deerfield Golf Course. The town owns the land and leases the operations to Deerfield Golf and Recreation Ltd. Oakville acquired the property from the province six years ago and agreed that the use would be restricted to a golf course, but it also wants to see if it can add any other recreational uses to the property that would compliment golf, such as a site for special events or a park.

Trudeau cancels year-end interviews, but attends holiday party as he ‘weighs his options’

There are calls from the inside for Trudeau to step down. The House of Commons started its holiday on Tuesday — giving Trudeau some time to consider his options. Here are a few ways Trudeau could proceed. Meanwhile, he attended the Liberal holiday party, where he compared the chaos to a family spat!

Editors and news directors from media organizations across the country placed Poilievre at the top of the list in the annual survey. Poilievre has cemented his position as Canada’s prime minister-in-waiting.

As if traffic isn’t bad enough, garbage truck hits overhead wires, shuts down King & Spadina - for days

The TTC says the garbage truck appeared to have its bucket up when it took out the overhead wires through the intersection. Repairs could take until Friday.

A group of TTC riders worked together to rescue a woman's cat from underneath a streetcar in downtown Toronto Friday.

Pina colada hospitalization 

Seven people end up in hospital in Fiji after drinking pina coladas at an upscale resort bar. The cocktails were served at the Warwick Resort - a five-star hotel - on Saturday, according to local news reports. The Fiji Tourism Minister says the resort is ‘not in the business of altering drinks.’

StatsCan says prices rose 1.9% in November.  That’s about the same as the month before. Cell phone services, clothes, shoes and furniture were cheaper while food prices kept climbing.

Russian cancer vaccine

Russia says it’s developed a cancer vaccine that will be available for free starting next year.  Apparently, it will be used as a treatment to stop growths and spreading.  It will not be given to the general population as a preventative measure.
