Major cuts at Sheridan College
Sheridan College is suspending 28% of its programs and laying off up to 30% of its workers due to an anticipated plunge in foreign students.
Community Watch Launch
A new Community Watch Program is being launched in Oakville’s Ward 3 (basically Southeast Oakville) by Crime Stoppers of Halton. The goal is to create a “strong network of residents who can recognize and report suspicious activity.” Crime Stoppers hopes the new Ward 3 program will be the start of a Halton-wide initiative.
Midtown open house tonight!
The Town will be hosting an information session about the Midtown Oakville Official Plan from 6:30-9pm at Oakville Town Hall. The draft plan is now available for public review and comment.
Local Lottery winner
An Oakville woman who plays the lottery every couple of months has won $100,000 in a recent Lotto 6/49 draw. She matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in their exact order.

OPP are still looking for a man who they say shot at several vehicles on the 401 in Mississauga Tuesday morning.

Job leave protection
The province is proposing a new 16-week leave to protect the jobs of people who adopt or have children through surrogacy. It’s also introducing a 27-week long-term illness leave if someone has a serious medical condition and can’t work.
