 Carney captures Europe, heads to the Arctic

Prime Minister Mark Carney pushed for closer trade and security ties with Europe on a one-day trip to Paris and London Monday. Carney began the day in France where he had a private meeting with President Emmanuel Macron, before flying to London to meet with King Charles and Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Carney is to make a sovereignty announcement in the Arctic today.

Mayor Chow also unveiled Monday Toronto’s plan to help local businesses and workers get through Canada's trade war with the U.S.  Chow announced a number of initiatives including a ‘love local’ campaign to encourage Torontonians choose Canadian-made goods and services.

Toronto man facing ‘rarely laid’ charges of advocating genocide after attacks at 5 Toronto synagogues

Toronto police have charged a man with nearly 30 offences, including advocating genocide and willful promotion of hatred – charges they say are “rarely laid in Canada.” Police say many of the offences are “alleged to have been motivated by hatred toward the Jewish community.”

Hudson’s Bay liquidation could start today

The company says the sell-off of its inventory will take 10-12 weeks.  It has 32 stores in Ontario, where more than half of its employees work.

Ex-UWaterloo student heading to prison for classroom stabbings

The former student pleaded guilty to the crimes which took place in a gender-studies class almost two years ago.  The judge deemed the acts to be hate crimes and sentenced him to 11 years behind bars.

Home sales plunge

Canadian home sales plunged 9.8% between January and February and more than 10% from a year ago.  The national average price also slipped 3.3%.  Economic uncertainty is seen as driving the drop in sales.

Harry immigration records due out today

A court has ruled that Prince Harry’s immigration records must be released by the end of today.  A U.S. think tank filed a request for the records to be released after Harry mentioned taking drugs in his memoir.  U.S. visa forms ask whether you’ve taken drugs before.  The think tank alleges he may have lied on his application for a U.S. visa.

Lakeshore probably won’t be a street you can play on.

The Town of Oakville is looking for your input as it puts together new guidelines for playing sports on town-owned streets. In September, the town lifted the ban and is now putting together a plan for allowing people to play on the roads while keeping everyone safe. You can link to an online survey here.
