Premier Doug Ford says it’s 100% certain that Canada should be preparing for tariffs, and Canada needs to stand strong. In addition to counter tariffs, he’s threatening to cut off energy exports to the U.S. in response.

“An insufferable tool” and “not helpful”

Elon Musk makes his thoughts clear after Justin Trudeau ties Kamala Harris’ defeat to an attack on women’s rights and progress. The premiers also let Trudeau know his comments were “not helpful.”

Jumbo rate reduction

As expected, the Bank of Canada cut its target for the overnight rate to 3.25%.  That’s a half-a-percentage point drop.  The bank says it’s watching a number of factors that could impact inflation including a drop in immigration, the GST holiday, rebate cheques, and changes to mortgage rules.

Sikh temple expansion proposed

A planning amendment has been requested to allow a Sikh temple on Khalsa Gate in Oakville to add almost 21,700 square feet of space, quintupling the size of the current facility.

Midtown meeting & protest tonight

There will be a drop-in public engagement session tonight about the Midtown development hosted by the province and developers at the Holiday Inn on Argus Road from 4-7. We Love Oakville also plans a protest outside the hotel in opposition to what it calls the “province imposing hyper density in Midtown”.

Town holiday hours

The Town of Oakville is out with its holiday hours. Find out when recreation centres, libraries, and other town facilities are going to be shut here.

Hamilton Police discover a series of man-made tunnels in Gage Park encampment

Police say the discovery of a series of tunnels was made during a proactive encampment check on Tuesday. The tunnels were used to allow for extension cords and other electrical wiring to connect multiple tents in the park. One man has been arrested and charged.

Elton John tells Time Magazine that legalizing marijuana in Canada was a bad idea.  “I maintain that it’s addictive. It leads to other drugs. And when you’re stoned – and I’ve been stoned – you don’t think normally.”  He made the comments in an article naming him 2024 Icon of the Year.

Yawning myth

The Washington Post reports that yawning because our brains need more oxygen is a myth.  Apparently it’s still a little understood behaviour.
