BREAKING COCKADOODLE NEWS: 25% Tariff update

"I think February 1st": President Trump talks Canada tariffs

“I THINK FEBRUARY 1ST”

After a day where there wasn’t much mention of Canada by the newly inaugurated U.S. President Trump, we got our answer tonight in response to a reporter’s questions in the Oval Office:

President Trump:  “We’re thinking in terms of 25% on Mexico and Canada because they’re allowing vast numbers of people… Canada is a very bad abuser also… vast numbers of people to come in and fentanyl to come in.”

Reporter: “When do you think you would enact them?”

President Trump: “I think February 1st.  I think we’ll do it February 1st.”

Reporter: “25% on both sir?”

President Trump: “On each.  Yeah.”

After months of tariff talk, Canada didn’t even get one mention in President Trump’s inauguration speech.  Trump did promise a trade “overhaul” in his remarks, and Reuters reports it involves directing federal agencies to study trade relationships with countries like Canada, Mexico, and China before making any moves on tariffs.  The President did say he’s launching a new External Revenue Service to collect “massive amounts” of tariff revenue, but tonight was the first time a February 1st deadline was raised.
